Intro

Hey guys, my name is Tony Huerta and I'm a 16 year old from Orlando, Florida. I'm spending the second semester of my sophomore year in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. I'm exchanging through a volunteer based program called AFS and I'll be living with a host family who has kindly taken me into their home. I just got my student visa(what a hassle!) approved this morning and we booked a last minute flight to New York and I'll be making it just in time for orientation tomorrow! I'm going to spend the morning/afternoon in Manhattan and then go to the Doubletree hotel JFK where orientation will take place. There I'll meet all the other students going to Portugal with me.

My host family is really great and I think I got lucky by getting them! We've talked on skype a few times and we've been IMing a lot. I have a host mom named Ângela, who is a social worker and family therapist, a host dad named Lucío who's an architect. Then I have two host siblings, a 17 year old girl named Inês, I'm going to go to the same school as her, and an 11 year old boy named Pedro.

I hope to document all of my experiences abroad and I'll update again when I'm in Portugal!(3 days!)
-Tony
