O Fim de Semana: 28-30 de Janeiro 2011

O fim de semana=The weekend
This weekend was good, Friday I had free afternoon and I slept and watched t.v. Then at 9 I went out with my friends from school to the mall. Saturday morning I went to rowing and then biked around the city. Friday night we had a small dinner party here at the house. It was with some good friends of my host family, their son is in my class at school and they're hosting a chinese girl named Ying this year with AFS, so I got to meet her. We had duck but I didn't know that I was eating duck, it tasted pretty good actually. Then we all watched a movie here at the house. On Wednesday we're going to their house for the Chinese New Year and Ying is going to cook everything. Today I went to rowing and finally go to row on the water, here in Portugal they do single sculls a lot more isntead of eights like we row back home. So I had to start from scratch today learning to scull(two oars instead of one), and being the only one on the boat and having to steer myself by putting more pressure on one oar or the other. I like it a lot and I can't wait to do it more. It's called "skif" instead of scull in Portuguese. Then a little after lunch my host parents, host sister, and I drove to "vila," or small town about half an hour east along the river called Ponte de Lima, it was nice and there are a lot of mountains out there is a big difference in landscape from here in Viana, it was also colder there. Then we went to my host dad's mom's house to get firewood, and then to his sister's house for a few minutes, and then finally we went home. We're about to eat dinner and then I have to go to the mall to get new shoes. I think that's all I have to say for now, here are pictures from today:

Fotos 2

I really hate these giant picture posts but whatever, Anyway, last Saturday(A week ago) I went with my host dad and rode bikes to Praia Norte(A beach close to town with a fort, but it’s really rocky so people don’t go there to spend a day at the beach) and to the end of the harbour arm where there’s a lighthouse and you have a view of Viana from the water and the ocean too. Then we went to the fort in town near the Ribeira which is the neighborhood of town where all the fisherman live/fish stalls are/harbour. Then on Sunday my host family and I took the elevador de santa luzia or funicular/tram to the top of the mountain where there’s this massive church and a view of the whole city/ocean/river/mountains from up there. So here are the pictures:
